I should tell you now, I am a jewelry hoarder. I think it began because of my shopping addiction, but I really struggle with ever getting rid of a piece. No matter how plain-jane, or unique and funky, I always convince myself that one day down the road I may need it again. Jewelry really adds that extra glitz and glam to any outfit. But can it really only do that for your outfits? No!
Jewelry is the ultimate accessory because it can be used not only for clothes, but also as home decor. Do I sound crazy yet? That extra sparkle that we get when wearing a necklace, can be added to your bedroom (or closet). Now of course, for the jewelry to add the extra detail you're looking for, it needs to be well displayed. I have often used very small nails to hang my necklaces on a wall. Another great option that I love is hanging an old rustic rake head on the wall, and hanging your jewelry from that.
However, two things stopped me from doing that this time. Firstly, I didn't have a great wall that they could all fit on. Secondly, I had acquired enough clothing to need a new dresser. I knew exactly where I would put my dresser, but I did not want it to feel like another big, clunky piece of furniture in the room. By dressing it up, and adding accessories to the top, it is more of a piece of decor than just furniture. I threw around a few different ideas of how to best display my jewelry, and I finally came up with the idea of using several different bowls and some sort of necklace stand. The bowls were easy. The necklace stand on the other hand created quite the problem. Although not all of my necklaces are very long, all the stands I saw were wayyy too short. Finally, I found the perfect stand from Anthropologie. Lucky for me, it is adjustable. Next, I wanted to get a mirrored tray to put all my different jewelry holders on in order to create a defined area.
Now that I had created the perfect jewelry set up, I needed to balance out the other side of the dresser top. To do this, I knew I needed something tall as well as a few shorter accessories. A lamp is always a great addition to any room, because nothing helps a room feel cozy like it can. I already have two lamps in the bedroom that have glass bases, so I wanted to get something that would mix up the textures. Also, when creating a jewelry area that is very glitzy, I wanted to offset it with something more rustic. That is why this lamp from World Market was great. Next, I found this amazing clock. It is rustic, teal, and also a worn metal which again adds to the variety of textures. The last piece to add was the candle, which, just like the lamp, brings a warm cozy light to the room. All of these things were the perfect way to add a homey touch to our bedroom, and were all great complements to the floral painting we had already.
