I have been dreaming of my wedding since before I can remember.
I have thought about every little detail from the type of flowers, to the table setting, to the music that will be played. I have obsessed over it for far too many hours. I even once created a scrapbook of all my wedding hopes and dreams. Calling me a planner is a little bit of an understatement.
One piece of the puzzle that I had never dreamt of was who I was going to marry. Maybe it was because I didn't fully understand what it meant to love someone enough to spend the rest of my life with them, or maybe it was because I was always focussed on the materialist aspect of the wedding. Either way, it is a good thing I didn't waste my time on that. There is no way I could've ever dreamt up the amazing complexity that is Clark. He has such a big heart and is constantly looking to love and encourage others. However, he makes the necessary decisions for himself to ensure he has the best and brightest future he can. He is uniquely cool while still being weird and bringing out the weirdness in everyone around him. He is an athlete and pretty darn handsome yet one of the nerdiest, most intelligent people I have ever met.. minus common sense. God must've skipped that because no one can be perfect.
He has encouraged me to try my hardest, strive for my dreams, and stay true to myself while on the journey. He absolutely brings out the best in me, and I can only hope that I will be able to do that for him for the rest of our lives.. since we get to spend them together.. since we're engaged! Woohoo!
So I'm sure you'd all love to know just how it all went down. Well it truly was like a dream come true. Sunday May 17th, 2015 I woke up and had only one thought, "today is the day I graduate college!" I ran through in my head what the rest of the day would hold. I would get ready, wearing a favorite Anthropologie dress and Boohoo white heels, a black cap and gown decorated just as I had envisioned, loose curls, and my favorite, classic J.Crew necklace. I would be with some of my best friends and family who came from other states all around the country to celebrate with me. Finally, I would hopefully strut across the stage without stumbling, falling, or embarrassing myself in any way. Each of these things happened just as I had imagined. Graduation was over and it was time to take pictures. Clark and I had already decided where to go, so he led our group to a park just a few blocks away.
At this point, I was beginning to feel very light headed. We had all been up late the night before celebrating, and I hadn't gotten a chance to eat that morning. Everyone else was clearly feeling the same way I thought, because they all kept insisting we hurry to the picture location. At one point I was feeling so weak I asked Clark if he would carry me. Normally he would happily oblige, but instead he said no. He for some reason would not walk with me, nor would he hold my hand. It was the strangest thing.
We eventually got to the park and everyone started shuffling me over to an area in front of the tree. The next thing I know people are shouting that I need to take pictures with Clark. Meanwhile I'm thinking a combination of things..
"Can someone get me some water? I think I'm going to pass out."
"Could I possibly just sit down a minute?"
"Maybe I should take pictures with family first."
"My friends and family are being strangely pushy right now..."
"But seriously I think I'm about to pass out."
I did not have the energy to say any of these things however, so I welcomed Clarky with open arms for our pictures.
I was slightly leaning on him as I was still feeling weak. He then gave me a little push, and as I stumbled and started to fix my hat, I noticed him getting on the ground. I looked over at him and realized what he was doing.
This was it! A day I had been imagining for so long, and let me tell you, it was perfect.
He had brought all of our friends and family together. He had people ready with cameras to take pictures and videos.
He picked my dream ring after much research of my Pinterest apparently.
And best of all, he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.
I now understand that all those dreams of a wedding were meaningless without him in it. He is what brings it all together.
His love is why my dreams have become a reality, and there is truly no one else in the world I'd rather spend each day with.
As the sign above our bed says, "Every day is a great day waking up next to you."
Well folks, this lucky girl gets to wake up next to that handsome guy every day for the rest of our lives.
Because I was feeling very weak during the picture session, we left pretty quickly after the proposal.
Lucky for me, I have an extremely talented friend who offered to take pictures of Clark and I. Yesterday we went out and did a quick photo shoot, and here is a little sneak peek. I will be putting the rest up in a new post during the upcoming week! :)
Love is a big part of my life, so here I will do my best to give you a glimpse of what it means to me.
For the next year or so, it will be the primary destination for wedding planning updates.
