Valentine's Day is one of those holidays that people feel strongly about.  While many people love and embrace the day, others simply hate it.  Although sometimes this is due to whether or not you're in a relationship, it can be due to many different reasons.  I have to say, I'm a lover.  I am in a relationship, but this day is more to me than just a day to celebrate my significant other.  It is a day to celebrate everyone I love.  Although it'd be great to do that all the time, our lives often get the best of us...

We don't always have time to love the people who deserve it, which is a sad statement, but true.  On Valentine's Day however, we remember to appreciate them and share our love.  What a great day in my eyes!

This year was the fourth Valentine's Day that Clark and I were in a relationship.  We rarely go on nice dates because they are expensive and not in a college budget.  However, we always go twice a year: for our anniversary and Valentine's Day.  No matter what we have going on, no matter how stressed we are with school or work, we always make time to celebrate these days.  It's easy to forget to show how much you love someone when your mind is on other stressful things.  This is why it's so crucial to use these days to remember why you love someone, and spend the day making sure they know it.

Our Valentine's Date this year consisted of some of our favorite things.  We slept in... well, I suppose only I got to sleep in.  Clark had scheduled to take his car in for an oil change early yesterday morning.  Then, he woke me up with a surprise: flowers, Starbucks, and a card that made me tear up.  Of course, this was the perfect way to start the day.

Next, we got ready for the day, and ran a few errands around MKE.  One of the things we needed to do was run by our new town home, and do a walk through before moving.  We had not yet gotten to see the inside because there were tenants living there before.  Clark ran up and down the stairs looking at all the rooms with so much excitement.. that he forgot me downstairs.  We then went home and continued to work on our DIY project which is almost done! It's so exciting to see it all come together.

At about 6:00pm we went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Allium.  It is a tiny place that serves unique drinks and tapas made from all locally found ingredients.  The menu varies depending on the season, and you can always find something new and delicious to have.  After eating here, we headed to one of our best finds in Milwaukee, a wine and chocolate bar called Indulge.  We indulged in some incredible chocolate fondue, cupcakes, and delicious wine!

Although going out to a movie would have been fun, we both agreed that the best way to celebrate love is by snuggling up with our pups and staying in.  It was the perfect day because we spent it celebrating each other, the things we love, and the plans we have for our future.

So, if you're not a fan of the day, try spending February 14, 2016 being a lover.  It can change your attitude and mindset from being stressed to feeling grateful and content.  Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about spending money or wearing red and pink.  It can be about expressing love for family, friends, and anyone else who deserves it.  Spend the day appreciating the things you love, and maybe you'll start to love the day itself.
