As I'm sure you've seen a million times, Clark and I started a DIY project a few months back. We completed the project the same weekend we began, but the hairpin legs and hardware slowed down the process. Because I had a very specific look I was going for, one based on a great piece sold at West Elm for $999, I knew I had to get these specific, unique legs and handles. We had searched all the hardware stores in the area, and nothing had quite what we were looking for. Because of this we ordered online and the waiting, I mean shipping, process began. The first step in creating our sidebar was to decide the measurements. After doing this, we went to Home Depot to find all of our materials. This part turned out to be much more difficult than we planned. Because we did not have a saw, we had to have Home Depot cut all of our pieces. The problem is that whatever cuts they make, there must be 11" on both sides. However, we had several pieces, especially the small squares on the front, that needed much closer cuts. So what to do now?
Well, we bought a saw! When I finally suggested the idea, Clark's eye lit up like a boy's on Christmas morning. He, as many guys do, has the strong desire to own tons of power tools, build stuff, and make a mess. The idea of getting to own his very own saw was beyond exciting for him. We purchased all of our materials, built the outside box, and stained everything. Then we put in the shelves, and created the doors. After putting everything together, we waited for the legs and pulls to arrive. Unfortunately, due to tons of shipping delays, it took over a month to receive them. However, everything arrived and was more perfect than I could've imagined. The final product is perfect for what we need, and the pride Clark and I both have over building something for less than $150 that would've cost us $999 to buy is incomparable!
